Start Your Pilot Journey

Private Pilot

A private pilot license (PPL) is a pilot certification that allows you to fly an aircraft for personal use. It means they can act as pilot in command of a small plane typically carrying friends and family as passengers. It is also considered the foundational step to becoming a professional pilot. You will learn basic flight maneuvers, navigation, emergency procedures, and so much more during training!

Instrument Pilot

An instrument rating is a qualification added to an existing PPL that allows a pilot to fly an aircraft using only the instruments in the cockpit. Pilots with an instrument rating can fly in reduced or no visibility or in or above the clouds.  An instrument rating is a good way to continue your education in aviation, as well as allowing you to experience a more technical way to fly.

Commercial Pilot

A commercial pilot certificate is a pilot license that allows the holder to operate an aircraft for compensation or hire. This means they can be paid to fly passengers or cargo for hire while acting as the pilot-in-command of the aircraft. A commercial pilot license is another stepping stone towards a career as an airline pilot, but further training is typically required to fly for commercial airlines. This license enables pilots to fly for pay, unlike a private pilot license which is for personal use only. Commercial pilots can work in various roles including charter flying, aerial photography, flight instruction, and cargo operations.

Airline Transport Pilot

An Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate is the highest level of pilot certification and is required to act as the pilot-in-command (PIC) for most airlines or as a captain for charter operations. To qualify, candidates must be at least 23 years old, hold a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating, pass a rigorous written knowledge exam, and complete an ATP practical test, which includes an oral evaluation and flight checkride. They must also log a minimum of 1,500 total flight hours, including specific requirements for cross-country, night, and instrument flight time. The ATP certificate offers significant career benefits, including eligibility for high-paying airline or corporate pilot positions, expanded job opportunities, and recognition as a highly skilled and experienced aviation professional.
